"A tedious brief scene - very tragical mirth."
This site is slowly coming together. Expect instability as I am growing the underlying code. The pennyjar blog is live, and so are the text and poetry sections. Anything that exists of the rest is currently only at the old site.
Below are a few things I would love to get for Christmas. Actually, they're
things I'd love to get most any time, but Christmas seems the most likely in the
near future. Since this is really just a general wish-list, it includes some
things that I don't really expect anyone to get for me. Those things have
appropriate subheadings. *wink*
A Couple Books and a CD
- Till We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis
- I had a copy of this book, but it disappeared and I'd really like to read it again. It's the sort of thing one wants to keep a copy of for occasional re-reading or loaning.
- The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis
- Ditto.
- Matchbox 20 "Yourself or Someone Like You" CD Used
- Why used? Well, I like Matchbox 20 and I have all their other albums, but
they're signed with one of the major record labels, all of whom have been lobbying
(successfully) for some truly awful laws, like the DMCA, which makes it a crime to
traffic in anything that could be used to circumvent a digital copy protection
mechanism, even if the thing has other uses and even if there are legal reasons
for circumventing the copy protection. One good place to find this would probably be
Half.com.
Some Geeky Christmas Gifts
- USB 2.0 4-Port Hub
- I hate to be picky, but in order for this to be useful for me, it needs
to be USB 2.0, not 1.1; it needs to have an AC adapter; and it needs to connect
to the computer with a USB cable, not by plugging directly into the port, as
some of the small ones designed for laptops do.
- DLink Wireless PC Card
- The DWL-650+ to be exact. Even though all such cards are mostly equal, some are more equal than others. From my research, this one looks like the best combination of performance and not eating up my laptop battery. A "recertified" version is available for cheap at TigerDirect.
- Cell phone case/belt-clip
- Either a belt-clip or a case-with-belt-clip. My phone is a Nokia 3390b.
Competent salespeople such as those at my Staples can find the right case based on that
model number.
- Slim Leather Case for Palm Tungsten E
- Neither Palm nor any of the usual pda case folks sell these yet. The least scary vendor I've been able to
find is this one in Singapore.
- Softick Card Export
- Geeky software that would let the memory card in my Palm act as a disk drive. Softick.
I've Been So Good This Year
- Logitech MX700
- The best mouse there is. Available at amazon.com.
- Aluminum Laptop Case
- I admit it: I just think these are so cool. Smaller and lighter is
better--my notebook is quite small. I found this nice one at a good price, but anything of similar size and weight (could go thinner and/or lighter) would be great.
- Notebook Memory Upgrade
- I don't think the right stuff gets any cheaper than oempcworld.com. Alas.
Only if Santa Brings You a Winning Lottery Ticket
- Casio QV-R40 Digital Camera
- I've read reviews and played with about a dozen different cameras, and I love this Casio. Of course, then I'd need an extra SD memory card too.
